The former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has snubbed new entreaties from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for him to return to the party.
Ladoja dumped the PDP in January last year for Accord Party (AP).
The latest pressure for him to have a rethink and join the party was alleged to be mounted by former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
The former chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP had reportedly paid an unscheduled visit to the former governor last Sunday on his way to a social function where they held a closed door meeting.
Ladoja later escorted the former president to the function.
It was gathered that Obasanjo had been in the forefront of several attempts to woo the former governor back to the PDP, particularly following his brilliant showing in the 2011 gubernatorial election in Oyo State.
Though details of the meeting were kept secret, it was gathered that the issue of Ladoja’s return to the PDP was the kernel of the meeting.
A source who confided in THISDAY, said Ladoja was able to convince the former president that with the myriad of problems confronting the PDP in the state, it would be better for him to stay back and continue to nurture his young political party in the state.
After a review of the position and opportunities for the 2015 polls, Obasanjo was said to have agreed with him, prompting his public declaration that Ladoja inherited the Accord Party from him.
Meanwhile, the former president alongside his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar, were among the dignitaries that were absent at the book launch of Senator Lekan Balogun which also coincided with the celebration of his 70th birthday anniversary.
Other absentees at the event included; Senate President, Senator David Mark; national chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; former governor of the state, Adebayo Alao-Akala.
Leading monarchs in the state like the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, were also not in attendance.
