JAYNE AUGOYE captures the mood of friends and associates of some of the victims of the Dana air crash, as being expressed on various web sites
Since Sunday, when the Dana Air flight 0992, MC Donnell Douglas (MD 83) crashed in Lagos, tributes and tears have continued to flow.
Friends and loved ones are immortalising victims by setting up memorial websites, Facebook posts and tweets.
The story of 31-year old Farida Kaikai comes in here. The woman, who died in her prime was an employee of Aso Savings and Loans, Abuja.
A graduate of Economics from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, she observed her National Youth Service Corps at the company where she did her primary assignment. She also had a Masters in International Management from a UK-based university.
Kaikai was on her way to Lagos to attend the Mastering Human Resources Management programme at the Lagos Business School, Ajah, Lagos on Monday when death struck.
The deceased was loved by many. On Twitter, friends and colleagues have been paying their last respect. Her sister, @aisha_sk tweeted, “I still can’t believe she’s gone RIP, my dearest sis.”
A tweet by @gbemilicious read, “Yesterday, I lost Farida Kaikai to Dana crash. I’m just coming to terms with it. Should have taken up the lunch offer she threw at me. RIP Rie!”
@Nonso A wrote, “Deep down, I really wish and prayed you were not on that flight. Goodbye, Farida KaiKai (FSK). Rest in Peace.”
@wemeahmore added in a tweet which read, “Whaao, I’m so sad checking my office mail and seeing my colleague’s demise, RIP Farida Kaikai.”
Also, Mrs. Tosin Anibaba, nee Odunjirin, was head of Business Alumni Support Services for Fate Foundation, Lagos.
Not so much of an active tweeter, her last tweet was posted on March 24. It read, “Want to know what is gonna happen to your biz in the next 4 months.”
Mrs. Anibaba was the daughter of Senator Dipo Odujinrin, a prominent politician from Ogun State.
Make-up entrepreneur, Tara Fela Durotoye, in a tribute on her Twitter page, said, “Tosin Anibaba was my host at Fate Foundation Women’s Day programme. Mr. Fola Adeola, Osayi Oruene; Executive director of FATE, I’m sorry.”
A tribute has also been put up in her honour and that of other victims – from the organisation. Anibaba held a B.Sc in Economics from the University of Essex and an M.Sc in International Consulting and Accounting from the University of Reading, UK She worked on various project management and strategy projects, spanning banking, insurance to power solutions.
Chuks Okocha, a consultant at Fate Foundation, is also a victim. The man was described by friends and acquaintances as brilliant and easy going, @Femi ColFM wrote, “I lost my friend Chris Okocha on the airline. Found out 5mins to my show.”
@Gbolahanodukoya said, “Chris Okocha, super intelligent fellow and a gifted teacher at Fate Foundation.”
@Bbaayyoo had this to say, “Three young men cut short in their prime. Sanmi, Chris Okocha and Pastor Akin. Rest in peace, brothers. Your impact will not be forgotten . Looks like all the judges at the mtnbzplan competition are dead. R.I.P. Chris Okocha! Thank you for everything you did for me!”
Ayoola Kemi Somolu will also be missed by her loved ones. Already, the Queens College Alunmi has a special website opened in her honour. Other fallen alumni – Maimuna Ayene and Amaka Ojugbana – are also been immortalised on different websites.
A post by @Shegelee read, “”Oh Lord, my brother in-law intended to get married to Ayoola Kemi Somolu in August. Alas, it won’t happen. I just confirmed that she was in the crashed plane.”
